Why Should I help SWAT?

The answer to this question comes in many shapes and sizes.  Perhaps the most important answer is to take in consideration all that SWAT does for your child.  Also, SWAT does not have the funding to hire someone to do the many things that are required to do to run a swim team.  We are grateful to our wonderful coaches and the parents that give time to help our team operate.

Does it take a huge time commitment to help with the swim team?

The answer is no.  There are several different ways that one could help with the swim team with varying amount of time and effort commitments.

Volunteer Opportunities

The following are some ways that you could help with the swim team.  Check back as opportunities come up for sign ups for these opportunities.

Spreading the Word:  The only way the swim team will continue to function in the long run is to bring in new swimmers.  Be sure and spread the word about our quality program to your friends, neighbors and schools.  There isn't a better value for the price if you are looking for a swimming program.

Car Pool Parents:  Because swimmers travel from all over the southwestern Salt Lake valley, many parents car pool to practices. Check with our board to find out who lives near you.

Helping with Committees and Events:  SWAT holds various events through out the year including hosting meets, team gatherings, and the Fun Run Fundraiser.  Parents will be asked to help in various capacities as these events are scheduled and draw near. There will be all levels of opportunities to help with these events.  Check back on the events page for more information about these functions as they are scheduled.

Timers:  Every swim meet needs back up timers.  Usually each team is assigned a lane to time. SWAT likes to divide our timing assignments into shifts so parents will not have to time more than an hour per meet most meets.  Timing is a fun way to get involved in the meets. If you haven't timed before the following link will tell you more about it.

Officials:  For those who want to become a little more involved in the process you can become an official through Utah swimming to help with the meets.  This is not a hard process to do, and it will help the team greatly to have a presence at the meets among the officials.  There are some perks to being an official that depend upon the meets such as being fed, a discount on some meet fees and other fun stuff. (Besides, you get to wear those cool white shirts.)

Board Members:  SWAT is run by a Board of Directors. Check out the club structure page for a complete list of the board.  The Board of Directors has a greater time commitment that helping with the various committees, meets and other functions. The amount of time necessary depends on the position that is held. Because our team is relatively small there is currently no length of term set for the Board and positions will be filled as they become open.  Talk to Doug Tonge if you are interested in any of these positions.
